A real engagement… Molly & Nathan!

July 14, 2009 |

She did NOT see it coming at all! Nathan & Molly have known they were going to get married, but the subject of the ring was a silent one. Nathan had alluded to not being able to afford to get one right at the moment so Molly was just continuing with planning without the ring (and without being “official”). Molly has been a long time stalker of my blog and I knew I would be photographing her wedding long before Nathan was in the picture. They are long distance so the only time they were going to be anywhere near me was going to be the 4th of July weekend and they really wanted to make sure that they got their engagement photos done even if it was without the ring.

So we borrowed Molly’s brother, Timothy’s, old Ford truck to set the scene. Molly and Nathan both have a love for old cars and Nathan actually builds them. Thanks Timothy! I am thinking of getting a new truck of my own soon so Nathan even gave me some useful tips on how to find the best deals on a new Ford truck! Watch this space…

Secretly, Nathan had custom designed her a ring (with the help of Molly’s bf and my sister Charlotte…shout out to Charlotte!) and set up with me to photograph the actual popping of the ring and the question! The session took place at Molly’s family’s farm in Smarr, GA. There is a beautiful open field with an old tree in it so that is where we wanted to start the shoot. I have to admit I don’t think I have ever been so nervous at an engagement shoot. We started out the session like I normally would posing the couple. As I was posing them I told Nathan to take one of Molly’s hands and to look at her and then he dropped to one knee! Then he said to her “I didn’t want you to have all your engagement pictures without your ring…so will you marry me?” Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! It was all I could do to not shriek for joy! It was so amazing! We all had to take a 15 minute break to get our nerves back under control.

Ahhhhhhhh!

In the bottom left photo Nathan is telling Molly about the ring. The middle stones were handed down from his grandmother, and the smaller rows on each side are from her grandmother. Her mother had given him the stones two weeks before . So, all that family history in one ring. Molly’s ring!

After shaking the nerves off we took some romantics at the proposal site.

Had to show you how tiny Molly is. We like to call her Molly-Pocket. She is a chef and actually has a blog called the Pocket Sized Chef. She posts all kinds of wonderful recipes on there so check it out! During the whole engagement, I found myself telling Molly to stand on different things…to balance out their heights

So cute!

Ok, so…Molly’s dad has some goats so we had to take a couple of photos with them. One of them would not stop licking my leg and another one gave Nathan a little nip!

We took some in front of the barn that is really a work shed with all kinds of old, being restored, cars!

After a little wardrobe change we went into the little downtown area to take some more romantic pics. Molly was rockin’ some red heals.

One of the neighbors has a hay bale that changes by the seasons, and on this particular July day it was checking out Molly and Nathan!

After their session the couple whipped up some chocolate chip cookies. Molly suggests that the recipe on the bag of Nestle’s Chocolate Chips is the best! Nathan had to kiss the cook!

Thank you so much Nathan for letting me in on the secret and having me be part of your proposal. I cannot wait for you wedding in November.
