My Favorite Chickens

November 22, 2012 |

It’s chicken week! And yesterday I shared sweet Lucy and the chickens with you. Today I wanted to look back on some of my favorite chicken pictures from the past.

5. Technically he’s not a chicken; he’s a rooster.  But Mr. Cluck is still pretty awesome! He was Pineola Farms’ resident rooster. He passed away a couple of years ago, but I still wanted to include him. He made an appearance at Lindsay and Ross’ wedding, and he was so handsome!

4. Remember the Newby family? How could you resist the cuteness of a little girl and her big fat rooster?

3. My second shooter, Melissa, also has a little flock of backyard chickens. Hers are named Eudora and Flannery. How very Southern!

2. Of course I LOVE my own chickens. Rosemary, Thyme, Pepper, and Salt (who we lost recently to a hawk attack). They are such a sweet little flock, and K and I love them and treat them like pets!

1. And the number one chicken picture is what I refer to as “The Chicken Picture.” And yes, it must be capitalized. I have shot thousands of pictures over the years, probably even hundreds of thousands. But when I was starting out, one of the first weddings I booked was Angel and Andy’s wedding at Pineola Farms. I shot The Chicken Picture at their wedding, and from there it has been published in Southern Weddings magazine, not once, not twice, but three times!! It’s been used in marketing material, recreated by other photographers and I always have brides asking about it. I’m always honored when people appreciate and enjoy my work. But I am also humbled by how much God has blessed my business. Even when I was just starting out, He was (and still is) in control of my success. When that chicken picture pops up once again, I’m reminded of how thankful I am for God’s blessings on my business!  So here it is, THE Chicken Picture!
